Looks like a workable solution, so I am now going to amend all my posts that contain pictures - one way to spend what appears to be a very wet and windy weekend!
Once it's done, I'll post the details here for others who may wish to display their pictures full size in their posts without using Flikr.

I have just reposted all my images that weren't uploaded directly to ProBoards. If others want to do the same in the future, the process is simple:-
Open an OpenDrive account, which will give you 5GB of free space. The space is categorized into Documents, Pictures, Music and Public. Open Pictures and drag/drop your pix onto that window to upload. Click on the picture you want for ProBoards, and it will open in a new OpenDrive tab. Right click on that picture and choose 'Copy image link' or whatever the equivalent is in your browser. In ProBoards, on the post you are making, select 'BBCode' and paste the link in. Add the BBCode by typing [IMG] at the start and [/IMG]" at the end of the URL, which will display the picture 'as is'. (That looks a bit weird but it's hard to 'escape' BBCode!) To specify a size, change the first tag by adding =800 to the first IMG tag, where 800 is the width of the image.
Click on 'Preview' to check the image appears as you wish.
Note that ProBoards will change the BBCode to a different line of code once posted, but the URL remains the same. It is shown after the tag src=" followed by the original URL.
If you prep the images to the right size for SSC, then your 5GB will last for years, but if you want more space, then for the sum of $5 per month or $50 p.a. (plus VAT) you can get 500GB.
