I can rent filmed performances by the National Theatre and watch them at home. This could be the sanity saver I need. I'm going to rent Vanya with Andrew Scott this weekend. I can't wait!

We do that when there's been something on that we haven't been able to see at one of the presentations they run at our local cinema.

My TV 📺 has nothing I want to watch even with Netflix and Prime Who needs Netflix and Prime? Try BBC2 at 10 pm on Sunday 10th. If you can receive and watch in HD it should be great - my Freeview recorder is already set. www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m0024zml

Somewhere in the wilds of some Derbyshire woods, some friends and I had finally come to the conclusion that we were lost. As we went round and round in circles, looking at photos I'd already taken to try and determine if we'd been here before, a craggy old villager type with not enough teeth came stumbling along the path, muttering something incomprehensible and waving rather alarmingly from whence he'd come. We let him go on his way before falling around laughing and making jokes about the madman in deliverance until we noticed that actually it was starting to get quite dark, we were no nearer our destination and some of us were starting to feel just a little bit on edge. My dear friend Sam said something about 'as long as we don't start hearing banjos', when, and I kid you not, we heard banjos. Turns out we were closer to home than we'd realised and the place we were staying (Wooden lodges in the woods) had a country-themed wedding going on and the banjos were warming up for the first dance. I've never been so relieved to get out of the woods before.

If you go down to the woods today, be sure of a big surprise, it’s the teddy bear picnic And you're on the menu My grandfather was fond of what he called the world's shortest story. I think it probably is and I tell it to my grandchildren. As a story/item of prose, it is complete. Algy met a bear, the bear was bulgy, the bulge was Algy.
