Just read a piece on the possible disposal sites for nuclear waste.
Forget new nuclear waste if you can! Our forbears, for better or worse, have left us with the problem of storing existing waste. We HAVE to find an answer. The article I read suggested under 1000m of solid rock many miles out to sea off the Lincolnshire coast. Access to the the storage would use a site that's currently a disused gas storage facility so no virgin land used.
Of course the NIMBYs are already out in force.
Any sensible ideas bearing in mind that doing nothing isn't an option.

We have lots of former collieries, many of which are situated in extremely close proximity to Midland, Northern, Welsh and Scottish towns and cities. Most Londoners would suggest repurposing these collieries...

Recycle it and use closed loop nuclear power.

Isn't the waste useful for dirty ammunition? Perhaps we could export it? I can think of a few places that would benefit from it.
Although it sounds feasible to store it deep under the ocean, my first thought is - there's got to be a way in and if there is? There's a way out too.

I believe there are spots in the oceans which slowle "suck down" material towards the earth's core - just as there are other which exude material creating new underwater land. As nuclear waste does not actually go bang then could that be a possibility? As for Kate's suggestion of leaving it on the deep ocean bed, well fair enough but we could end up with some pretty wierd mutant looking creatures down there. Oh wait a minute...

I think you may have posted on the wrong forum. But people on This forum consider doing nothing as a task, so even when we doing nothing, we are extremely busy

Perhaps the nice Mr Musk could use his rockets export it off-planet for a suitable fee, although they would be burning a lot of fossil fuel to do so. Ideally he might want to go along for the ride.
